Fixing a 1026 Error
What a 1026 Error is
You may be trying to copy a file, move a file or delete a file from
your computer when the 1026 error message appears on your screen. There
are three reasons you may receive this message on your computer screen:
1) You do not have enough hard disk space left on your computer.
2) If you copy or try to move a file to a disk, click on a file and
try to delete it. After trying one of the above measures you try to
click on Undo Copy or Undo Move so you can recover the file.
3) If the network server has problems due to network traffic or security issues while you try to delete or copy files.
How to Solve a 1026 Error
1) To resolve the 1026 error if you do not have enough hard disc space:
For
the Windows 98 program you will use the disc cleanup tool to solve your
problem by freeing up disc space. By using the disc cleanup tool you
are emptying the Recycle Bin, deleting files from the temporary folder
and temporary Internet files, deleting program files that are
downloaded, eliminating installed programs that you never use, getting
rid of files produced by Windows Me tools or Windows 98 tools and
optional components unused, and your hard disk drive switching to the
file system FAT32.
Manually Fixing Stored Files
Go to My Computer and find the hard disk where you would like to
free up space and right click on it. Next click on Properties and after
that go to the General Tab and click on Disk Cleanup.
Once on
Disk Cleanup, check off the boxes of files you want to eliminate by
clicking them. Click OK once, then click yes one time and finally click
OK. This should get rid of stored files on your computer and free up
disc space.
How to Manually Eradicate Windows Components
To eradicate Windows Components that you never use to free up more
disk space go to My Computer and find the hard disk which you want to
get rid of and free up space. On Properties click and in the General
Tab click on Disk Cleanup. Go under the tab More Options and in Window
Components find Clean Up and click.
To remove any of the
components you do not use, clear the check boxes by clicking on them.
Once you have chosen the components you want to delete click OK three
times.
Switch to a FAT32
I would recommend someone who knows a lot about computers when
doing this step. Your FAT system will not be able to convert back once
you convert to a FAT32 system.
First you will need to uninstall items or tools regarding the Master Boot Record.
Second:
- Go to Start, put cursor on Programs, Accessories, System Tools
and (FAT32) Drive Converter. Once at Drive Converter go to Next and
click on it.
- When in the Drives you can click which drive you want to change to FAT32 system. Click Next followed by OK.
- Click Next three times.
- Once completed you may click Finish.
How to Remove Programs Already Installed
To remove installed disk programs you do not use and help to free
up hard disk space: Go to My Computer and find the hard disk you want
to get more space from and right click on it. Next go to Properties and
click. Under the General Tab click on Disc Cleanup. Go to More Options
and under Installed Programs click Clean Up. Go to Install/Uninstall
Tab and find the program to be removed. Find Add/Remove and click on
it. You will be given instructions to follow and you will be able to
remove the program. Repeat under Add/Remove and click OK three times to
get rid of more programs, if needed, to free up more disk space.
